Learnwell is an educational platform developed and managed by Dr. Maddie Mason at Vanderbilt University School of Nursing to support reflection, simulation-based learning, and competency development. This Privacy Policy describes the information Learnwell collects, how that information is used and protected, and who may access it.
When you use Learnwell, the platform may collect information necessary to provide and evaluate educational activities, including:
Account information, such as your name, Vanderbilt email address, and course or section information.
Responses submitted as part of learning activities or assessments, including competency evaluations, reflection responses, knowledge assessment responses, and learning takeaways.
Information about your progress and completion of activities.
Learnwell does not sell student information or use student information for advertising or marketing purposes. Learnwell does not use third-party analytics services.
Account credentials are used to authenticate access to Learnwell. Password authentication is managed through Learnwell's backend authentication, and the Learnwell administrator does not have access to users' passwords.
Information collected through Learnwell may be used to:
Provide and administer educational activities and assessments.
Track completion and support grading when Learnwell is used as part of a course.
Provide authorized course faculty with information needed to review student work and support learning.
Conduct research when a user has separately consented to participate in an approved research study.
Use of Learnwell for a course activity does not automatically constitute consent to participate in research.
Access to Learnwell's underlying database is limited to the platform administrator (Dr. Mason).
When Learnwell is used as part of a course, authorized course faculty may be provided access through a faculty-facing interface to information necessary to review submissions, provide feedback, and assign grades. Faculty access will be limited to information needed for educational purposes.
When data are used for research, access and use are governed by the applicable IRB-approved research protocol and consent process.
Information may also be disclosed when required by applicable law or Vanderbilt University policy.
Some educational activities completed through Learnwell may also be associated with an IRB-approved research study. Participation in research is voluntary and separate from completion of required course activities.
When research participation is offered, you will receive separate IRB-approved consent information and will be asked whether you agree to participate. Your decision will not affect the educational activity you complete, your grade, or your standing in your course.
If you do not consent to research participation, your information will be used only as necessary to complete and grade the course activity and will then be deleted. If you consent to research participation, data generated through the activity may be retained and used for research in accordance with the applicable consent form and approved research protocol.
Learnwell uses Supabase to provide database and backend infrastructure for the platform. Information submitted through Learnwell is stored within this infrastructure.
Administrative access to identifiable student information is restricted to the Learnwell platform administrator. Course faculty may access relevant student information only through the faculty-facing functionality provided for educational purposes.
Information collected for required educational activities is retained as necessary to administer and grade those activities.
When a student does not consent to an associated research study, their data will be deleted after grading is complete. When a student consents to research participation, data may be retained in accordance with the applicable IRB-approved research protocol and consent information.
This Privacy Policy may be updated as Learnwell develops or as institutional or regulatory requirements change. The most current version will be available through the Learnwell website and will include the date it was last updated.
